[Men's Track & Field] Tenney Qualifies Discus, Sets Record Hammer

Comments

Garrett Tenney picked right up where he left off in the outdoor opener for the Jimmies.

Typically, the Sioux City Relays would be the about the third meet for the Jimmies, but weather wiped out the first two. With temperatures near 80, it took a toll on their athletes.

Tenney continued his fine season to lead the Jimmie men.

After setting the school record in the weight throw in the indoor season, Tenney broke his own program mark in the hammer throw.

Tenney placed second with a school-record mark of 169-feet, nine-inches, over six feet longer than his 2013 mark.

That was just half the meet for the senior from Gardnerville, Nev., however. He also qualified for nationals in his first attempt in the discus, spinning it 160-9 — which also was good for runner-up honors in the meet.

"He had a great day, kinda took what he did in the indoor season and kept it going in a great way," Crawford said.
