[Men's Track & Field] Brad Brooks Moves up from seed at NAIA NationalsPublished by
Bradley Brooks moved up from his seed, but not enough to reach the finals of the discus at the NAIA national meet on Thursday. The sophomore from Mesa, Ariz., had his fourth-best mark of the year at 149 feet, 7 inches, to rank him 20th, three spots better than his seed. "I was proud of what he did today and during the season," said JC men's track coach Ed Crawford. "First time at nationals can sometimes be tricky for guys with their nerves, but he went out and competed. He's got nothing to be ashamed about." Brooks, who also plays football at Jamestown College, got better with each of three throws. He had a top mark of 155-10 coming into the meet, which is being held in Marion, Ind. "Just to make it here says a lot," Crawford said. Brooks was the lone JC men's athlete to qualify. The winning spin in the discus Thursday was a whopping 186-10 by Willy Irwin of Concordia, Ore.
